Animal Success Stories

PAWS of Hertford County has adopted out or placed nearly 3000 animals since August 2006.  Our animals are in good homes all over northeastern North Carolina, west to Raleigh, southeast to New Bern, and as far north as Virginia, Maryland and even New Jersey. We are thrilled to receive updates and pictures from the families of these wonderful cats and dogs.  If you would like your new PAWS family member to be posted on our website, please send to pawsofhertfordcounty@yahoo.com.

Dolly

After her third appearances at the Knightdale PetSmart, Dolly was an exciting, last-minute-in-the-parking-lot adoption. Dolly's new mom writes: "Dolly is doing exceptional in her new home with her Daddy Anthony, Mommy Ali, and baby brother Graham. She loves to go on walks and play. She has a few toys that are favorites and during the day sleeps next to fellow big-brother and dogmate Mason. She is happy and healthy and we LOVE Dolly soooo very much. We look forward to spending the next decade with Dolly as part of our family!" XXXOOO

Phoebe

From Matt Storey: "Dear PAWS, Sorry it has taken so long to get these pictures to you. We adopted Phoebe from PAWS 12-23-2009. She is very loved and we cannot imagine not having her here with us. We are also including pictures of our golden retriever, Meme, who came to us 4yrs. ago as a stray. We are sending a few pictures and a few videos of them playing. hope that you get them okay and will keep you updated. We had Phoebe spayed last week and she is doing great! Thanks again for all you do and will send pictures of our cat Baby (whom we adopted two yrs ago) when she will stay in one place long enough to snap one." The Storey Family

Noelle, now Eleanor

After many long weeks at the shelter, Noelle, on the left, becomes Eleanor, and joins special PAWS dog, Newbie, now Frank, in a joyful new life. Thank you, Lance, from all of us.

Trigger

News from Trigger's new adopters, Jan Blossom and Captain Brenda Holdener of the USS Wasp, who adopted Trigger at PAWS' first PetSmart adoption event: "Hello! I wanted to send you a quick update on Trigger. As you know he is an amazing dog, he is sweet and very eager to please. He is settling in well at his forever home. He loves his morning runs on the beach and now is able to not only stare at birds but chase them too! I tried to attach a video of his first day at the beach, but it is too big to send. He still is a little leery of the “waves” but is getting his feet wet on his third day. The big priority is to teach him not to drink salt water, we are sure he will learn this very quickly as he has learned everything else we have been working with him on for the last couple of days. He went to a dog park on his first full day in Virginia . He was completely overwhelmed at the first dog park, and so were we. We loved the second dog park, fewer dogs and some very nice owners who helped make his entry into the park much less traumatic. He quickly became the activity director and facilitated laps around the park for all the dogs. He does very well in the car, it is not his favorite place to be but we are sure he will love it once he realizes that we go fun places, not to a new home, every time we go on a ride. . He is just amazing, we are so lucky to have him. Thank you for what you have done for Trigger and so many other dogs, they all deserve a good life." Jan

Annie, now Maggie

Wes Huggins of Apex writes: "Maggie is doing well, has acclimated herself to her surroundings, and is immediately loved by everyone she meets. She's simply a delight to have with and around me! As I write this, she's laying down right behind me in my office (which is where Shadow used to lay during the day). It's nice to have 'company' with me again. She's doing quite well on the leash, though she does want to get from point A to point B a little faster than me. However, she is smart as a tack and has learned so much in the 20 days or so since she came home with me. She wants to please and doesn't have a mean bone in her body which, by the way, has grown in the last 20 days as well."
