The mission of PAWS of Hertford County is to make our community a more humane place for homeless, abused, and neglected animals through increased spaying and neutering, high-quality sheltering, conscientious adoptions, education of the public, and animal welfare advocacy.

Some Extra PAWS Fun
A tradition has begun, PAWS has a Poker Run! The 2013 PAWS Poker run was held on May 18th and sponsored by Collier Harley Davidson in Roanoke Rapids, NC. Many thanks to all the motorcycle clubs that participated. The riders truly supported PAWS and it was evident when the winners of the 5 best poker hands donated their prize money back to PAWS! What a win-win day! We appreciate this generosity towards the dogs and cats living at the shelter as they wait for their forever homes. Special thanks to Terry Boone, G. Boots Denson, Big Dawg from the Knights of the Inferno-Three Rivers Chapter, and to Gary and Greg Bowen from Iron Order Motorcycle Club. You have inspired and excited us! PAWS will be having a car/bike show and poker run this fall. Please watch our Facebook page (pawsofhertfordcounty) and website for announcements. We hope to see you there!


Our Poker Run heroes came riding in on shiny bikes to help save the PAWS dogs and cats. Thanks to all for the support and fun!

Cassidy came into the shelter with a large abrasion on her shoulder and a flap of skin hanging off her side. The vet said it looked like she was caught in the fan belt of a car. That is what little kittens do - find themselves in danger. Fast forward to now. Cassidy is a resilient personality-full loving kitten. She plays with her playmates and her happiness has never wavered, even as she healed from the horrible injury. If you like the brave, affectionate, cheerful souls - here she is!

How You Can Help

Join PAWS as either an Active Member, Student Member, or Friends of PAWS. Please contact us or attend the next PAWS meeting and fill out a membership form.
Volunteer at the shelter. Shelter volunteers are needed for assistance with cleaning and caring for dogs and cats. Volunteers are also needed just to socialize and play with the dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens. Please call the PAWS number or email us for more information.
Volunteer to foster dogs, puppies, cats, or kittens in your home. Foster homes are sometimes needed for animals with special situations or needs. Please call the PAWS number or email us to set up a meeting to apply as a foster home.
Donate food, cat litter and other items. Please click on "Donation Info" on the sidebar to see our wish list.
Monetary donations can be made online by clicking on the PayPal icon below, given to any PAWS member, mailed to our address, or left in the numerous donation containers in businesses around Hertford County.
