KITTEN EMERGENCY
The shelter is currently crowded with kittens. There is no room for them all and some have had to be put down. All shelter kittens are at risk. Please adopt. PAWS members can arrange part or full transport of our animals to adopters out of our area in North Carolina.
Welcome to PAWS of Hertford County, Inc.

Welcome to the official website of P.A.W.S. of Hertford County, North Carolina.
Our initials stand for "Protecting Animals Worth Saving". We are a small non-profit group of volunteers who have dedicated ourselves to improving the state of animal welfare in Hertford County.
Our mission is:
*To provide humane treatment for unwanted, abandoned, and stray animals in our community,
*To promote animal adoption from animal shelters and rescue groups,
*To educate the community in responsible animal care,
*To provide foster care for animals who need it,
*To aggressively promote spaying or neutering of pets to reduce the numbers of cats and dogs without homes.
Each year in North Carolina, thousands of companion animals arrive in animal shelters and sadly, many of them never have the second chance they deserve.
We think these animals deserve better and are working with Animal Control to increase the numbers of adoptions from our municipal shelter.

How You Can Help
There are many ways in which you can help us provide a more humane community for the animals we care for and invite you to join us!
We are always searching for volunteers to help us in the Hertford County Animal Shelter as animal caretakers. Shelter volunteers are also needed to welcome visitors to our shelter, assist with the adoption process and take an active role in helping prospective adoptors choose the pet that is right for them.
Please contact us if you are interested in temporarily fostering cats or dogs, kittens or puppies in your home when they have special needs that require home care, or when the shelter is overcrowded. PAWS will cover all expenses incurred when any of our animals are in a foster home. Fostering is a temporary situation only.
PAWS is in constant need of material and financial support from the community. PAWS IS CURRENTLY EXPERIENCING A FOOD CRISIS!! Donations of food from pet food companies that we used to depend on have dried up. Please help!! Name brand, good quality dog, cat, puppy, and kitten food can be dropped off at the shelter, left at Mug Shotz on Main Street in Ahoskie, or given to any PAWS member. We also need plain Tidy Cats cat litter! Monetary donations can be made online by clicking on the PayPal icon below, given to any PAWS member, mailed to our address, or left in the numerous donation containers in businesses around Hertford County.
To help make our dogs much more comfortable in their shelter kennels, please click on the "Kuranda Beds" icon above. These well-made beds get the dogs up off the cement floor, making them much more comfortable when they sleep. By clicking on the icon, you can make an online donation of a Kuranda bed.
All donations to PAWS are tax-deductable.
If you believe that the work we do is important, we invite you to join in and help us make Hertford County a better place for all of God's creatures.
