ADOPTION INFORMATION

Adoptable Animals: Vaccinations and Medical Treatments	PAWS has healthy animals for adoption because of our care and medication protocol. PAWS animals are up-to-date on current vaccinations and most adults are spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Those who are not spayed/neutered prior to adoption are required to be spayed/neutered within a reasonable period of time, or the animal can be reclaimed by PAWS. *PAWS Dogs have been given the following vaccinations/treatments: Spayed or Neutered Rabies Bordetella (kennel cough) 5-Way or 7-Way Shots Worming Flea, Tick, and Chewing Lice Prevention Heartworm Tested PAWS Cats have been given the following vaccinations/treatment:* Spayed or Neutered (cats and kittens must be spayed/neuter prior to adoption) Rabies 4-Way Shots Worming Flea Prevention Feline Leukemia Virus (FLV) Checked Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) Checked * This applies to animals who at an appropriate age for the medical treatment or test.

The Adoption Procedure	To adopt an animal from the Hertford County Animal Shelter please call (252) 642 - 7279 for an appointment. The adoption process includes: completing an Adoption Application and Contract (please scroll below), participating in a pre-adoption screening to make sure that the match is a good fit for both your family and the pet, presenting your photo ID (adopters must be 21 years old or older), and paying the adoption fee. The adoption fee includes spaying/neutering and vaccinations appropriate for the animal's age. * PAWS of Hertford County reserves the right to decline any potential adopter based on established criteria, the interview with the adopter, observations or knowledge of the adopter, or a review of the formal Adoption Application and Contract.

Please click here for the fill in by computer version. You must still print this two page form or save and email as an attachment to PAWS. There is no on-line submission at this point.

Spay and Neuter Policy	PAWS stresses the importance of spaying and neutering to reduce unwanted births, to stop animal overpopulation and to protect the health and safety of the public. PAWS requires that all pets adopted from us must be spayed or neutered or the animal will be reclaimed.

Additional Information	The following PAWS partners offer support for adoption families in the form of free food (Pedigree), or coupons for pet products (PetSmart). Pedigree offers free food for one month for adopted dogs. For information please click here.
